This flight has the reputation among even experienced travelers as being a long and tough one...I didn't know they had direct flights from Auckland or does the Sydney plane stop there on the way ??..Do you have to fly first to Sydney...obviously that makes it even longer.....????
4 :
On Air NZ, from AKL to LAX it takes 11h55m and from LAX to AKL it takes 12h45m. That is on a 747 and yes, it is a direct flight. Qantas takes 11h50m from AKL to LAX and 12h40m from LAX to AKL on their direct flight as well. I actually think the AKL to LAX flight is relatively easy if you get on the 9:00pm flight. That way you just fall asleep for part of the trip and get to Auckland around 6:00am. Oh, there is still a once a week

LA to London, England 13 hr 25 minutes Best way to check this in the future, aside from Yahoo answers, would be to go to Expedia.com and pretend to book the flight. It will provide flight durations.
2 :
expedia.com
3 :
10 or 11
4 :
See Source below. Go to Flight Tools then "Flight Duration Finder" Use London not England
5 :
If you fly non-stop it's 10 hours 10 minutes from LAX to London, Heathrow. British Airways has some fares for less the $400 in September, so get flyin'!
6 :
LA to England is approx 10 hours. This depends on the weather wind speed encountered during the flight. The world weather patterns usually assist flights to Europe and have a tail wind to assist hence the 10 hour transit time. Flying from England to LA will take longer, approx 11 hours 15 Min's due to the head-on wind encountered thus a slower transit time.
7 :
11-13 hours, depending on the wind currents.
8 :
10 or 11 hours...it'll feel like forever
9 :
I flew from the east coast of the US(Newark) to London and that was a little more than 7 hours. And it's about a 6 hour flight from LA to Newark so you could say 13 hours. Maybe an hour or two less if you flew at a slightly higher latitude and not directly in a straight line. For example, flights from North America to Asia often travel another angle such as across the polar regions to shorten the trip greatly, rather than fly directly across the entire Pacific.

Why does a direct flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii take 4.5 hours but the return direct flight is 6.5 hours

Why does a direct flight from Los Angeles to Hawaii take 4.5 hours but the return direct flight is 6.5 hours?
Can wind be that big a factor?

time zones

Because the Earth is spinning below, making it farther.
3 :
Did you account for the time zone changes? Given the times you state, I think you have. Sometimes wind can play a part, but then for the Pacific Jet-stream this time of year, I would expect a shorter trip home not going there. So, then I have come to the conclusion the flight home is on a smaller jet with smaller engines.
4 :
time zone changes.
5 :
The jet stream pushes the airplane in the Hawaii bound direction. It is a VERY strong wind, so it makes such a huge difference.
6 :
Wind and... the fact that they have to make a "BIG" arc coming back to avoid incoming traffic as well as others going to and coming from the Asian countries, Philippines, Australia, etc.
7 :
wind is a factor, but also the route they take, due to flight patterns
8 :
In addition to the time zone changes, if you're planning to travel to Hawaii after March 10 and before November 4, California will be on Daylight Time (start and stop dates are new in 2007), but Hawaii stays on standard time so you would need to add another hour of time difference.
9 :
it is the opposite way around. it takes less time from Hawaii to LA because of the jet stream
10 :
iltmaemc is correct. In checking current direct flight times- LAX to Honolulu = 5 hr. 55 min. Honolulu to LAX= 5 hr 20 min. The jet stream goes from west to east.
11 :
There's only one answer- wind, but you already know that. Wind certainly can make that big of a difference. When one is flying with the wind, the wind speed adds on to the aircrafts actual speed. When the opposite it is true, it detracts from the aircrafts speed. The trade winds over the middle of pacific natural blow East to West. This is has to do with convection currents, where varying temperatures in the ocean draw air from one point to another. We learned about the Hadley cell theory in 7th grade- look it up and you'll figure it out.

HOw can I find the arrival date of my friend's flight to Los Angeles in LAX

HOw can I find the arrival date of my friend's flight to Los Angeles in LAX?
I checked the LAX website, www.lawa.org, but can't see any link for arrivals to LAX. The flight is supposed to arrive tomorrow in the noon, but don't know the exact time. Can you please give me a phone number if you have one? [All the phone numbers that I have are automatic, and are of no help]

You could try checking the website of the airline your friend is travelling on. Most airlines have flight schedules on their websites, and some will even tell you the progress of the flight. You could also phone the airline's office in LA. Just visit www.yellowpages.com and search for 'Airline' in LA. This will bring up a list of the local numbers for the airlines. The numbers are also in the phone book if you still have a printed copy at home/work! Hope this helps.

I work at LAX. The LAX website is for the airport, not the airlines. For arrival info you must call the airlines direct. For example, American, United, Alaska, Delta, Southwest, etc. When you arrive there will be monitors on the arrival (lower) level telling you arrival times and if the flight is on time. American is in Terminal 4, United..T-7, Alaska..T-3, Delta..T-5, Southwest...T-1. Terminals are on your right and parking is on the left.
3 :
Check at the airline web page. some airlines even have an across the country tracking of a particular flight. My kids love that/
4 :
You need the airline and flight number. Call your friend and tell him that if he doesn't give you this basic information that you can't possibly be expected to go pick him up. Make that crystal clear. Then either go to website of the air line and look for the "flight status" option or call the 800 for the airline. Another great way to check is Flight stats: http://www.flightstats.com/go/Home/home.do It is REALLY, REALLY important that you get the airline and flight number from your friend. 1) You will have no idea where to go to meet your friend unless you have the airline! Do you have any idea how big LAX is? 2) I wouldn't even leave the house unless you check the flight status before hand. Flights get canceled or delayed all the time! Before you leave either call the 800 number for the airline or check online.
5 :
PLZ E-MAIL ME ABOUT WHAT FLIGHT AND I CAN TELL U ! OR JUZ GO ONTO THEIR WEBSITE AND THEY HAVE SOMEWHERE WHERE U CAN FIND THAT INFO OUT
6 :
Why not just ask your friend? You would find out.
