About 4 - 5 hours maybe?

what size jet? in this instance, size matters. A smaller jet would go slower than a larger one. Somewhere around 8 hours would be average.

Commercial non-stop flights from LAX to LHR take a scheduled time of 10 to 10 1/2 hours outbound and 11 1/4 return, give or take a little bit. A private jet could probably make it in less elapsed time because the quoted airline time always has some slack in it for delays, and still allows the airline to say it was on time. A flight with one stop, commercially, boosts the elapsed time to the vicinity of 12 hours or more, of course, depending on the connection. It is a 5500 mile trip. To do that non-stop, you need a large business jet, probably 15-25 seats, and costing many thousands of dollars per HOUR to charter. A large business jet will probably have a cruising speed similar to a commercial airliner. Maybe a bit slower. To do it with one stop, you could get a smaller plane, stop on the east coast (e.g. JFK, Boston), or in eastern Canada and the hourly cost would probably be lower. Flight times might be a bit longer.

Given that a private jet maybe slightly faster, but have a shorter range of around 3,000 miles, I would estimate the trip time to be around the same as a passenger jet such as a B747, that can fly there non-stop roughly 5,440 miles. so around 10.5 to 11.5 hours

It would depend on the model / class of jet since there are a variety of types with different speeds and capabilities. This would definitely be best suited by a Heavy or Long-Range jet model given the duration of the trip. This is the most expensive class of jet to charter so hopefully you have deep pockets! The distance of the trip is about 5,500 miles, so a Long-Range jet should be able to do it non-stop, With a max. cruising speed of 550 mph, the trip would take around 10 hours. If you chose a Heavy model, the jet would need to stop somewhere to refuel during the trip. The crusiing speeds would be similar, but the fuel stop can add 40 minutes to an hour, so around 11 hours. These times can vary depending on number of people and amount of luggage - the more 'full' or weighted the jet, the more likely you would need an additional stop for fuel in either case. A great jet for this trip would be a Gulfstream V or Global Express .... to see approximate hourly rates and other details this site is helpful: http://www.privatejets.com/global-express.html http://www.privatejets.com/gulfstream-v.html
