Can I book a round trip flight going to LAX-Los Angeles CA, and leaving from San Jose.?
I want to book a round trip flight from New York to Los Angeles Airport and coming back I want to depart from San Jose airport to New York. Any tips on how to do this. I have tried the travel sites, but they usually don't have an option for airports you want to arrive at and depart at. And buying 2 one-way tickets seems to be more expensive. Any advice on the easiest way to do this.

Actually, what you are looking for is possible with all of the major travel sites -- you need to choose the "multi-city" option, which will allow you to book flights with multiple stops, or different arrival/destination airports. For a multi-city search in your instance, you'd want to choose NYC-LAX for the first flight and SJC-NYC for the second.

so a friend of mine told me that planes dont flight over the pacific ocean because the gravity is stronger over there, ill be taking a flight to auckland and its cheaper if i go from los angeles than from atlanta and i was wondering if it is true (the ocean thing) and if so, where does the los angeles flight pass by?

We need to fly to Los Angeles, but it's cheaper to go to San Diego with a connecting flight in LA.?
We purchased tickets to San Diego with a connecting flight in Los Angeles. For the return trip we will have to drive from Los Angeles which is where we will be for our vacation to San Diego only to fly back to Los Angeles for the connecting flight that takes us home. Anyone know what will happen if we just get off the plane in Los Angeles and not get back on? If we carry on our bags and at least do that for the 1st portion of the trip that will save us a lot of hassle. If necessary we will drive back to San Diego when it's time to come home. Will we run into problems with the airline if we do that? We saved several hundred dollars booking it this way. Thanks!!

I strongly advice not to do this. It's not unusual that you can find tickets cheaper if you connect to another destination rather than just booking to the connection point. It's the complex world of airline ticketing. When you fail to board the plane Los Angeles - San Diego, your return ticket will almost certainly be canceled.

If you miss any leg of a flight the airline will cancel all remaining flights you have booked. It's all there in the "fine print" in the terms and conditions or conditions of carriage. Sorry, but you can't do what you're suggesting, it will end up costing a lot more than the money you've already saved.

ok my flight to Los Angeles!
ok my flight to Los Angeles!?
ok my flight to Los Angeles (I AM FLYING FROM BOSTON) that I booked has 50 seats left and 150 taken, I only got my seat at Row 17 and I sit in between two people. My trip is 5 weeks away and how full will the flight be???????? and one thing since I Sit between two people what if the person near me in the window has to use the bathroom and I am asleep, well my flight leaves at 6:30 am that day and I will leave my house around 2:30 am (I live two hours from logan) and will want to relax or sleep during that 6 hour plane ride. will I be able to rest or relax during the plane ride? I still worry of how long deplaning takes AS SOMEONE can slow the whole boarding down.

Please do not worry, the boarding and deplaning will go off normally (they always do) and moving long lines of people fast is always a challenge but the crew is well organised. Remember, everyone wants to deplane as soon as possible once having arrived. I suggest you call the airline and ask for a different seat. Find out the configuration of the seats - is it 2-5-2 ? Is it 3-4-3 ? Then request according to these tips : A window seat in any configuration will give you undisturbed rest, if you are not prone to frequest bathroom breaks. If you are, then any aisle seat will be great. If you are concerned about someone crossing over you to get out, choose an aisle by the window, so to speak, that way only one person (the one by the window) will cross. Or, Choose an aisle in the middle 4 section, again only one person will cross as the other middle person will cross the aisle person on the other side. Do not take an aisle in the 5 section, as you may have 2 persons wanting to get out past you. Once in your seat, settle down for the long haul, read, watch TV or sleep, but do enjoy your flight. Kiki You dont know Daniel he posts regularly here. He isnt flying to most of these places. But Daniel if someone needs to get out, he wakes you and you get out. there is nothing in the contract of carriage (which I am sure you have read) that guarantees you sleep.

Is there any sites to see in between San fransisco and Los Angeles?
I was thinking about getting a special flight to Los Angeles but I really want to see alcatraz and just want to know with a long trip as this is would I be able to stop and see any sights on the way?

Alcatraz is accessed from the pier in San Francisco so you would be able to go there no matter how you intend on getting to LA. Between SF and LA, there are loads of scenic places along Highway 1. There is Santa Cruz, Monterey/ Pacific Grove/ Carmel/ Pebble Beach, San Simeon and Hearst Castle, Santa Barbara, Big Sur, and more. 1 is quite possibly the most scenic drive in California. You can make a day of it and just drive past everything, or you can take a few days and do some exploring. Other than that, I suppose you could take 101, which will still hit San Simeon and Santa Barbara, and pass by some more low key attractions like garlic in Gilroy and the Steinbeck Library in Salinas. The fastest route is going to be 5, but there is pretty much nothing to see other than Casa de Fruta, a glorified fruit market near Hollister.

These include Malibu, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Lompoc, Santa Maria, Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay, Cambria, then for a few hours it is just the ocean to your left and the rolling hills and cliffs to your right, then Carmel, Monterey, Seaside, and Santa Cruz. This will be the most scenic and exciting, yet slowest, route. Highway 101...This route passes through all the valleys parrallel from the ocean. This way you will pass through Bel-Air, San Fernando Valley, Thousand Oaks, Ventura, Santa Barbara, Solvang - a very popular tourist attraction- , San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, a very long stretch of agriculture, Salinas, San Juan Batista, Gilroy. This will be a fairly quick route but with few tourist attractions other than Solvang, PismoBeach, Salinas, and Gilroy. Interstate 5...definitely the fastest way. It passes through downtown Los Angeles, and then about an hour of mountains, and 6 hours of pure agriculture (orchards, fields, etc.). Casa De Fruta is actually about a 30 minute drive off of I-5 on highway 152. Then after the Valley's Agriculture you go through Altamont Pass, which is usually swamped with extremely heavy traffic from about 4-9am and 3-7pm. This route has almost no tourist attractions except for a few "vista points" that offer great views of the Valley.

Yes Alcatraz is cool! You could also stop in San Jose at the Winchester Mystery House....then theres the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Thats a landmark hotel.... :)

The only things to see would be like, Half Moon Bay and Maverick's beach where the world championship surfing tournament is held, and Santa Cruse with it's spectacular surfing spots plus it fun beach boardwalk and municipal pier and restaurants, Monterey and IT'S fisherman's wharf, Cannery Row and world class aquarium, Pacific Grove, 17 Mile Drive, Big Sur, Hearst's Castle, Santa Barbara and the rest of the California Coast with whale watching opportunities along the way. No, not much to do or see. Interestingly, while San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with this, and everything mentioned, in my opinion, the Alcatraz tour is one of the most boring things to do. That is, unless for some reason, you LIKE old abandoned prisons.

It passes through downtown Los Angeles, and then about an hour of mountains, and 6 hours of pure agriculture (orchards, fields, etc.). Casa De Fruta is actually about a 30 minute drive off of I-5 on highway 152. Then after the Valley's Agriculture you go through Altamont Pass, which is usually swamped with extremely heavy traffic from about 4-9am and 3-7pm. This route has almost no tourist attractions except for a few "vista points" that offer great views of the Valley.

Yes Alcatraz is cool! You could also stop in San Jose at the Winchester Mystery House....then theres the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo. Thats a landmark hotel.... :)

The only things to see would be like, Half Moon Bay and Maverick's beach where the world championship surfing tournament is held, and Santa Cruse with it's spectacular surfing spots plus it fun beach boardwalk and municipal pier and restaurants, Monterey and IT'S fisherman's wharf, Cannery Row and world class aquarium, Pacific Grove, 17 Mile Drive, Big Sur, Hearst's Castle, Santa Barbara and the rest of the California Coast with whale watching opportunities along the way. No, not much to do or see. Interestingly, while San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with this, and everything mentioned, in my opinion, the Alcatraz tour is one of the most boring things to do. That is, unless for some reason, you LIKE old abandoned prisons.

No guarantees on that one, you'd have to be kind of flexible with your schedule MIGHT be cheaper - I didn't try it, I ended up not going :(

I'm not sure, but I think it's because of the wind. The wind blows in different directions in different areas, it also can blow harder in some areas. So I think when you fly on an airplane to Hong Kong that maybe flying higher up will get you there faster than coming back to Los Angeles.

I had a 10 hour flight from Vancouver to London last summer. to keep myself occupied, I brought along... -some books -a few magazines -an ipod. you could do the same..or you could bring.. -a portable DVD player and your favorite movies. It's gonna be a long flight...trust me..but you'll probably fall asleep half the way too! have fun! :)

A couple of good books. A new magazine or two that you've never read before. Music puzzle books - sudoku, crossword, logic puzzles, etc. homework if you're in school, office work (if you can take it with you) Map and guidebook of London, to figure out where you're going and what you're going to see there.

Well, there's always your MP3 player. Usually, there are music channels you can listen to (you probably have to supply your own headphones-it's a good idea anyway for both $$ and health safety issues) and movies you can watch on the backs of seats. Then, there's always the old standby--the BOOK. Personally, I advise against using electronic devices that use air-wave frequency because they used to foul up the airplane's electrical system and cause danger for the flight. There are other small things you can do like crossword puzzles or word searches. That may be too simple for you to enjoy though. You can always write if you are creative or just like to journal. That's always good. You can start a travel journal by describing what you see when you look out the plane window-if you get a window seat. Otherwise, just write down your expectations of London, etc. Personally, I don't do any of these things because I just sit frozen and praying until the plane touches down and comes to a stop on the runway. Flying terrifies me.

I had a 10 hour flight from Vancouver to London last summer. to keep myself occupied, I brought along... -some books -a few magazines -an ipod. you could do the same..or you could bring.. -a portable DVD player and your favorite movies. A couple of good books. A new magazine or two that you've never read before. Music puzzle books - sudoku, crossword, logic puzzles, etc. homework if you're in school, office work (if you can take it with you) Map and guidebook of London, to figure out where you're going and what you're going to see there.

Well, there's always your MP3 player. Usually, there are music channels you can listen to (you probably have to supply your own headphones-it's a good idea anyway for both $$ and health safety issues) and movies you can watch on the backs of seats. Then, there's always the old standby--the BOOK. Personally, I advise against using electronic devices that use air-wave frequency because they used to foul up the airplane's electrical system and cause danger for the flight. There are other small things you can do like crossword puzzles or word searches. That may be too simple for you to enjoy though. You can always write if you are creative or just like to journal. That's always good. You can start a travel journal by describing what you see when you look out the plane window-if you get a window seat. Otherwise, just write down your expectations of London, etc. Personally, I don't do any of these things because I just sit frozen and praying until the plane touches down and comes to a stop on the runway. Flying terrifies me.

Bring a travel pillow and small blanket and catch up on sleep so you won't be too jet lagged when you get there. Bring a blank journal and pen or colored pencils and start a journal about your trip. Make a list of things you want to do on your trip. I don't think that there is a non-stop to Athens from LAX. So let's say you fly Delta. You go to Atlanta (4.5 hours). Then Atlanta to Athens is 11 hours. So you'll have about 15 hours of flying time. Add to that the time of your layover.....probably somewhere between 2 to 5 hours. The whole trip will take you 18 to 21 hours...... NOW, if you fly with Lufthansa, it will be 11.5 hours to Munich, and another 3 hours to Athens. Add in your layover time....it'll be a little shorter that way. There are other itineraries as well. On Air NZ, from AKL to LAX it takes 11h55m and from LAX to AKL it takes 12h45m. That is on a 747 and yes, it is a direct flight. Qantas takes 11h50m from AKL to LAX and 12h40m from LAX to AKL on their direct flight as well. I actually think the AKL to LAX flight is relatively easy if you get on the 9:00pm flight. That way you just fall asleep for part of the trip and get to Auckland around 6:00am. Oh, there is still a once a week

You could try checking the website of the airline your friend is travelling on. Most airlines have flight schedules on their websites, and some will even tell you the progress of the flight. You could also phone the airline's office in LA. Just visit www.yellowpages.com and search for 'Airline' in LA. This will bring up a list of the local numbers for the airlines. The numbers are also in the phone book if you still have a printed copy at home/work! Hope this helps.

I work at LAX. The LAX website is for the airport, not the airlines. For arrival info you must call the airlines direct. For example, American, United, Alaska, Delta, Southwest, etc. When you arrive there will be monitors on the arrival (lower) level telling you arrival times and if the flight is on time. American is in Terminal 4, United..T-7, Alaska..T-3, Delta..T-5, Southwest...T-1. Terminals are on your right and parking is on the left.

I checked the LAX website, www.lawa.org, but can't see any link for arrivals to LAX. The flight is supposed to arrive tomorrow in the noon, but don't know the exact time. Can you please give me a phone number if you have one? [All the phone numbers that I have are automatic, and are of no help]

You could try checking the website of the airline your friend is travelling on. Most airlines have flight schedules on their websites, and some will even tell you the progress of the flight. You could also phone the airline's office in LA. Just visit www.yellowpages.com and search for 'Airline' in LA. This will bring up a list of the local numbers for the airlines. The numbers are also in the phone book if you still have a printed copy at home/work! Hope this helps.

I work at LAX. The LAX website is for the airport, not the airlines. For arrival info you must call the airlines direct. For example, American, United, Alaska, Delta, Southwest, etc. When you arrive there will be monitors on the arrival (lower) level telling you arrival times and if the flight is on time. American is in Terminal 4, United..T-7, Alaska..T-3, Delta..T-5, Southwest...T-1. Terminals are on your right and parking is on the left.

I am going to Athens in May and the flight Los Angeles-London-Athens is very expensive this year. Can anyone recommend another route which may offer a less expensive airfare? My research says there are no direct flights from Los Angeles to Athens, it's always via some other large airport. Thank you.

No direct flights LAX to Ath. However, if you get a flight Lax- London, there are many cheap flights London -Ath. and perhaps you can cut the cost. It will take some planning and you may have a wait and/or transfer airports in London. If you are young and have stamina and the destination is more important than the trip, you can consider the plan. I have done it and saved a lot of dollars.

xmmm from LA.....am thinking if you can find a Delta flight to Atlanta then you can get a direct flight right into Athens from there I use Memphis as a homeport and Delta put on a new flight from there to Atlanta and gets me into Athens about lunch time...no long layover like I had using KLM......that one gives me 7 hr layover in Amsterdam...search around, going in May you should get better prices than late June or later. I fly every year and have gone from winter months to Aug for as little as 565 to 1200 roundtrip using either the KLM or Delta.....

KLM generally has the best fares. Check the prices on Wednesday flights first then Tues and Thurs. Make sure you book well in advance for the best prices. Now would be best. If you go KLM, you will go straight from LA to Amsterdam with a couple hours layover. You will love Amsterdam Shiphol Airport is Huge and it is a great place to shop(more shops than you can possible visit while you're waiting for your flight) and hangout. They have bars all over the place and most people drink Heineken or Amstel(Not Light-Amstel Light is made for the USA). Don't drink a lot because sitting that long makes your feet swell up especially if you have too much alcohol. They will take dollars no problem. But your change will probably be in Euros. Then you will board a slightly smaller plane to Athens. Its a great trip. My family has done it a lot. If you leave the international area, make sure each person has his or her ticket and passport on them at all times cause you will pass through customs to get back in and they will demand your tickets and passport(these are very important). They show 2 to 3 movies on the flight to Amsterdam, but none on the flight to Athens. Bring your laptop or DVD player unless you want to read. Also I just read SoBelle info about Delta. Didn't know that before. You can also check with the British and German Airlines. I like Luftansa a lot. I Cr 13;8a

I see that everyone is quoting you roundtrip prices, have you tried low fare airlines like southwest, airtran or allegiant air, as low as $49 one way! and they're not listed on major travel sites like expedia or travelocity, so you'll have to go to each individual site, hope this helps, i know they have limited routes and i didn't look it up before i posted, but they may fly into airports that are close to where you need to go.
