Dehydration caused by dry air in the cabin is as important as the time change, and dehydration can be cumulative + aggravated by your environment/activities before the flight. Jet lag can be much worse on the return leg of a relatively short trip because you never really recovered from the lag incurred on the first leg. It can also be aggravated by what you do between trips. I have not found anything that eliminates jet lag, but staying hydrated helps reduce it. Water and non-carbonated liquids are best. Avoid drinking a lot of anything with caffeine, including colas. Lots of alcohol also aggravates the dehydration and you may have a hangover before the end of a long flight. Wear clothing that is comfortable. Especially avoid tight clothing or shoes - your body will swell during a long flight. Sleeping on the flight (even if it isn't very good sleep) also helps. The seats are MUCH, MUCH better in business and first class on long distance flights so upgrade if you can. If you can't upgrade, select a window seat so you can pile extra pillows & blankets against the interior of the cabin to lean against for a bit of extra comfort. A sleep mask (like www.mindfold.com) and earplugs may help you sleep. You can choose to take something to help you sleep on the plane, but try it first. How big can my check-in and carry-on luggage be on my flight from Los Angeles, California to Shanghai, China?
My tour group itinerary insists it be no larger than 18"x10"x8" for check in. There are no requirements stated for the carry-on bag. I do not have any luggage that fits these dimensions. I have a very small piece that is actually 20", but about 5" tall. Help?

I am looking for a flight from MIA to LAX non stop for my daughter who is 14 year old from august 4 to august 22 . She will be traveling alone, and I would prefer an airline that does not require an unaccompanied minor fee. It must not be round trip but I would prefer it that way. Well, from my past experiences, it takes about 13hours to fly to Hong Kong from San Francisco. I've only flown to Tokyo once, and it took about 10-11hours with no delays, so yes the websites are correct.

The reason I ask is because my friend is allegedly flying here from Austria to LAX in 'SIX hours', which is impossible. I know she lies to me about things but this is ridiculous!

Or does it depend? I'm really not sure, but I've always wondered. And if it depends, what states is the plane more likely to go over? Does it matter if it's a non-stop flight? I think it does, but again I'm not entirely sure. I'm thinking of taking a trip and I was hoping to know what states I'd be passing over before hand, not just hear it from the pilot as it happens. They would be used to avoid crowded skies or bad weather or take advantage of the wind. The East-to-West and West-to-East routes might be slightly different too. To get a rough idea, just take a map of the US and draw a straight line from LA to NY. The route might be somewhat North or South of that, and it might be slightly curved on a flat map, but it would give you a good idea. Any flight that stopped along the way would almost certainly have to deviate from the direct route, because places like Chicago or Dallas or St Louis don't necessarily conveniently fall on the direct route.

with Atlanta to London they have to fly over water and it is harder for planes to fly over water than it is to fly over land. with San Fransisco they fly over land then they fly over a small patch of water so it doesn't hurt the plane as much as if they were flying over just water. and also some planes are designed to fly just over land and some are design to fly just over water or they could do both. And some planes are only designed to fly up to a certain altitude that's why you see on most smaller planes that the altitude level only goes to about 13,000 feet. So it just depends what type of planes you are trying to get on because if you get on a larger plane in San Fransisco it can go over water really easily.But if you get on a smaller plane in San Fransisco the plane will be able to fly over land easily but when it gets to the water it might start having problems.Good luck!

Both Alaska and Southwest have reasonable prices for one-way tickets. If one gives a better fare than the other outbound, and the other has a better return fare, there is no penalty for buying separate one-way tickets instead of a roundtrip from one.

What to wear on a long flight to Los Angeles?
So I'll be travelling on the plane on December 2nd to Los Angeles, and we're landing at LAX. The flight will be around 18 hours (talk about long!) and I'm coming from a super hot&humid place where it's summer all year long. What should I wear on the plane and the stuff I should take in my purse? Thanks a bunch guys, and maybe you could advise on what to wear in LA, esp for people like me(who come from a place that has summer all year long) Thank you so much;)

Training pants and jacket.. oh.. don't ever wear jeans during flight!!! (bad experience)

Wear something comfortable, 18 hours is exruciatingly long. LA fashion in short is , loud, summery & casual!! So keep these 3 in mind. Don't focus too much on what you wear, cuz no one is gonna look at what you are wearing in a flight, just wear comfy clothes. **
